Amid several injuries, there have been big changes to the upcoming WWE Night of Champions 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Between matches that were announced and had to be canceled to others that were expected but didn’t come to fruition, there were some sizable changes in the weeks ahead of the upcoming premium live event.

Here are six WWE Night of Champions 2025 matches that were expected but ended up not taking place.

6. R-Truth vs. John Cena

While it was never advertised as John Cena is squarely set to face off against CM Punk at WWE Night of Champions, R-Truth (Ron Killing) believed himself to be able to get another chance at Cena.

Despite continuing to interrupt the proceedings on SmackDown, Truth would not end up getting his hands on Cena for Night of Champions.

At the SmackDown in Riyadh, Truth continued to attempt to demand another shot at John Cena, notably interrupting Aleister Black to only end up rebuffed backstage by Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis.

When he would later halt the show, he was taken out by Aleister Black who would later have an intriguing backstage confrontation over the sneak attack with Damian Priest. Priest would suggest Black come straight to Truth’s face, seemingly teasing a future match between Truth and Black.

5. Nikki Bella vs. Liv Morgan

After making her WWE Raw return, Nikki Bella was unceremoniously interrupted by Liv Morgan who demanded the veteran put some respect on her name.

When the segment ended in Liv delivering an Oblivion to Nikki, it seemed likely that the pair were heading to a showdown – potentially in Riyadh.

However, after Morgan picked up an injury in the interim taking her out of action for several months, the storyline has been dropped.

Instead Night of Champions is set to feature another intriguing match up – Raquel Rodriguez taking on Rhea Ripley in a Street Fight.

4. Tiffany Stratton vs. Nia Jax

While Tiffany Stratton and Nia Jax have been on a lengthy storyline journey together, it seemed that perhaps Tiffy’s reign would be ending in Riyadh.

However, instead of making it onto the actual card for WWE Night of Champions 2025, a match between the two took place on the SmackDown before the PLE.

They would end up having a brutal Last Woman Standing match, and despite a thwarted Money in the Bank cash-in by Naomi, Stratton was able to retain.

Retaining her WWE Women’s Championship after sending Nia Jax through a pair of tables set up at ringside, Stratton was the last woman standing.

It was noted that champion Dominik Mysterio had picked up an injury and his match against AJ Styles was officially postponed.

Later it was reported by Dave Meltzer that the injury is not so severe that there needs to be alternative plans for the title, and Mysterio will remain champion.

Per Adam Pearce, Styles will get the first shot at the title when Mysterio is able to defend it.

2. Chad Gable vs. Penta

Another unfortunate injury on WWE Raw is that of Chad Gable – and if you believe the theory that the duo are one in the same – also El Grande Americano.

Since he had been continuing his on-screen feud with Penta, it seemed likely that perhaps Gable could be poised for a rematch.

Instead Gable ended up written off of WWE TV after an attack by Penta backstage.

Unfortunately Gable reportedly requires a shoulder surgery that will see him out of action for an undetermined number of months.

1. Any WWE Tag Team Championship matches

The New Day remain the World Tag Team Champions on WWE Raw, but despite having some viable challengers, did not end up on the card for WWE Night of Champions 2025.

While the WWE Tag Team Championship ended up on the line in Riyadh with the Street Profits facing the Wyatt Sicks’ Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy on SmackDown – all of the other tag teams that were in contention for the match were lurking at ringside.

With Fraxiom, the Motor City Machine Guns, Los Garza and DIY all also in the hunt – in the end, the Street Profits retained the title after some interference from the teams at ringside caused a disqualification.

In the end a massive brawl ensued with the Street Profits standing tall and having a stare down with the Wyatt Sicks.
