While there have recently been several AEW departures leading to WWE debuts, historically the swaps have gone the other way.
It has been a while since AEW captured a big name WWE legend to add to their roster, but this is a list of potential snags that could be intriguing additions to AEW.
Here are six WWE legends who could possibly join AEW.
6. AJ Styles
One potential AEW recruit from WWE is AJ Styles.
While Styles remains a current WWE star, it is possible that we could see him jump ship before the end of his career.
AEW has become known over the years as a place that some stars find more creative freedom ahead of retirement, so maybe Styles could see himself following suit.
With AJ Styles’ current contract length with WWE not precisely known, there’ll always be some speculation about him potentially making an AEW debut one day.

5. Mickie James
While Mickie James currently appears on the WWE competition series LFG (Legends & Future Greats) on A&E, she is reportedly not set to be a coach for the second season.
If she isn’t tied to WWE, that could mean an open door for her to join AEW.
With the AEW women’s division continuing to have promise but seemingly lacking the leadership for appropriate execution, a veteran like James could certainly use her experience to assist backstage.
Whether Mickie James ends up in a mentorship role behind the scenes or bringing her skills to in-ring competition, she would be an amazing signing for AEW.

4. Kurt Angle
While Kurt Angle is certainly a WWE legend, he has also explored options outside of the company in the past.
Beloved by many fans for his time in TNA Wrestling, Kurt Angle would be a fascinating pick-up for AEW.
Bringing mainstream name recognition, Kurt Angle could play an important role in a short-term AEW program.
While Angle has commented in the past that it is unlikely he would return to wrestling full time, it is always fun to see him make special appearances.

3. Beth Phoenix
While her husband Edge is still in AEW as Cope, Mrs Copeland has yet to make an appearance, although her voice does appear at the very start of Cope’s entrance music.
However, she continues to be a WWE legend that fans expect to appear in AEW at some point.
With WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix currently a free agent, it would make sense for her to show up in AEW.
Between her skills in the ring, as a mentor backstage or even on commentary, Beth Phoenix would have a lot to add to AEW.

2. Gangrel
With two-thirds of the iconic WWE faction The Brood currently in AEW, the group is only missing Gangrel to complete the trio.
While it is unlikely that all three members would reunite together, given Christian Cage and Cope’s current feud against one another, Gangrel could pop up as a help to Cope again.
Gangrel previously appeared during AEW Double or Nothing 2024 when Copeland took on Malakai Black.
Now that Cope is back in action in AEW, perhaps we could see the return of Gangrel at some point as well.

1. Rhino
Another legend of professional wrestling, Rhino (or Rhyno as he was known in WWE) has remained competitive in the industry for decades.
Well known for his work in WWE, ECW and TNA Wrestling, the veteran was recently reported as a free agent following his TNA departure.
Rhino has recently made an appearance in the NWA and is set for an upcoming appearance in the Crockett Cup in May 2025, but may be available thereafter.
