With Slammiversary on the horizon, Mike Santana has addressed his TNA Wrestling future amid rumors that WWE have interest in the star.
The June 28 edition of TNA Slammiversary sees Mike Santana defend the TNA World Championship against Nic Nemeth.
Recent reports having indicated that Mike Santana’s TNA Wrestling contract is set to expire in July of this year, with WWE having an interest in signing the star.
Justin Barraso of Undisputed spoke with Santana ahead of this Sunday’s pay-per-view in Boston, and he wouldn’t be drawn in on speculation about his future, instead only looking as far ahead as Slammiversary, saying:
“I’ve heard the rumors, I’m defending the world title this Sunday in Boston at Slammiversary. That is my focus. Literally all I’ve been thinking about and preparing for is this match against Nic Nemeth…”
“Nic Nemeth and me are going to go after it, especially with all the transition and changes in TNA, this is the time for us to show what’s most important–it’s all about what happens in the ring.
“I want people leaving talking about the show and how great it was. Slammiversary, that’s all I’m thinking about.
“Whatever happens after that happens after that, my focus is Slammiversary.”
Santana returned to TNA Wrestling in April 2024, having parted ways with AEW the month before, with the star being granted his release.
A former member of Proud & Powerful in AEW, Santana’s relationship with Ortiz would be fractious, although the latter has suggested that he is open to a reunion with the TNA Wrestling star, should the opportunity arise.
Ortiz and Santana are four-time Impact World Tag Team Champions, with the pair leaving TNA Wrestling to join AEW at All Out in August 2019.
TNA Wrestling’s Top Guy Heads To WWE?
There’s nothing new in TNA Wrestling stars heading to WWE, as has been seen with the likes of Jordynne Grace and Joe Hendry in the past few years. Both top champions in the company, it could be argued that the pair were always going to be snapped up when their contracts came up.
For Mike Santana, he’s seen the high end of the international stage before, having been a former AEW star for nearly five years since the first All Out.
Championship runs would elude Santana in AEW, but he’s had much greater success in TNA Wrestling, along with acrss the independent wrestling scene, being a well-travelled star with an eighteen-year career. All that experience will no doubt stand the star in good stead should he put pen to paper with WWE.
Santana is no stranger to WWE programming, having competed six times on NXT since May 2025, including at the Showdown crossover with TNA Wrestling last October, competing in a “Survivor Series Style Match” alongside Frankie Kazarian, Leon Slater & Moose) in a victory over Je’Von Evans, Myles Borne, Ricky Saints & Trick Williams.
With WWE and TNA Wrestling in a multi-year partnership, the TKO Group-owned company certainly has an interest in the talent under Anthem Sports & Entertainment promotion, otherwise Impact and NXT wouldn’t be crossing over in the way that they have been.
For many stars, contract renewal time is an opportunity to assess the landscape of the professional wrestling scene to decide on the next move. The existence of AEW has seen an improvement of the compensation packages available to stars, according to Paul Heyman, and that’s no doubt something that plays on the mind of talent as they assess their own value.
The current TNA World Champion and with a contract due to expire in the very near future, Santana holds many of the cards that could make him a valuable asset wherever he lands next.
