WWE Interested In Signing AEW Star With Contract Expiring Very Soon

WWE is reportedly interested in signing a former AEW champion whose contract is reportedly set to expire very soon.

There have been some notable WWE to AEW moves as of late – namely the New Level (New Day) debuting at All In London – but there could be someone about to go in the opposite direction.

Fightful reported recently that former AEW World Tag Team and Trios Champion Anthony Bowens’ contract is due to expire on October 1, 2026, which is now less than a month away.

Bowens has remained active and on TV, including as recently as All In this past Sunday, though he did take the pin as Lio Rush & The Rascalz defeated The Opps.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted there has been “at least some” interest from WWE in signing Bowens. He wrote:

Anthony Bowens contract expires next month according to Fightful. There was at least some interest from WWE. He’s 35 which is old to start in the WWE system.

He did great with The Acclaimed gimmick but both he and Max Caster struggled badly to find an identity after they split up. He’s been with the Opps.

As Meltzer noted, Bowens didn’t break out as a singles talent after splitting from Max Caster, as both of them went from one of the most popular acts in the company as The Acclaimed to largely being in the background.

AEW briefly ran a reunion storyline but that didn’t catch on either.

The Acclaimed To Reunite In WWE?

Max Caster’s AEW contract is also reportedly due to expire in October, and the ideal scenario would probably be for WWE to sign both Bowens and Caster to reunite The Acclaimed.

WWE’s tag team division is in dire need of a spark right now, and they could help provide it – and it would probably be the best chance they both have of succeeding rather than on their own.

Having said that, WWE did have some interest in Bowens before he even signed with AEW and formed a duo with Caster, so perhaps the company is still high on him as an individual with him now having accumulated several years of TV experience.
