Gunther came face to face with Seth Rollins on the January 22 episode of WWE Raw during the World Heavyweight Champion’s injury revelation.
Highlights from the segment, which saw Rollins reveal he suffered an MCL tear and would be out of action, can be seen below this news story.
WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther would exchange words on Raw with Rollins, going on to state he would win the Royal Rumble this Sunday.
That would be all well and good, except that WWE Royal Rumble takes place on Saturday, January 27.
Fightful Select has provided the backstage reaction to Gunther’s botch stating that WWE “scrambled to put up a ‘Royal Rumble this Saturday’ graphic”, which did pop up on the screen seconds after. Michael Cole on commentary also made it a point to repeatedly reiterate the event is happening on Saturday.
Gunther has also reacted to the mix up over the day, pointing out how correct he actually was, tweeting:
“I am going to win the Royal Rumble, this Sunday 2am CET”
CET is Central European Time, with the show starting 8pm ET on Peacock and pay-per-view.
Gunther has also tweeted a message of support to Rollins, telling him to “heal up.”
Elsewhere in WWE, having got his name back, Pete Dunne has teased the possibility of rekindling his feud with Gunther.
CM Punk has also reacted to Gunther’s past Royal Rumble performance on social media.
As noted in the news story, in the 2023 men’s Royal Rumble match, Gunther entered at number one and would be in the final two.
He would be eliminated by Cody Rhodes after 1:11:40 in the titular match, breaking the record for the longest time spent in the Rumble.
The upcoming premium live event is the first major stop on the road to WrestleMania 40, with WWE insiders also reacting to a news story claiming some plans were “set in stone.”
