Update On New WWE Social Media Policy

It was reported recently that WWE had implemented a new social media policy to further police what talent are promoting on their various platforms.

Additional details about the policy were later reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Meltzer had said that the new policy would see wrestlers fined for doing so much as using a hashtag about a product like Oreo cookies.

Now, Meltzer has printed a correction saying that WWE’s policy only covers the monetization of these social media platforms. This means that talent would be able to tweet about Oreo cookies but would not be allowed to take an endorsement deal from them.

Meltzer adds that this policy is similar to the one WWE implemented in 2020 regarding Twitch and Cameo. However, it had simply not included Twitter until now.

Last year’s policy regarding Twitch saw a large amount of focus put onto WWE by former U.S. Presidential candidate Andrew Yang. Yang criticized WWE for their handling of their independent contractors while the policy also led to the release of Zelina Vega.
