A title change took place on tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown in Boston’s TD Garden following a recent return.
Two weeks ago on SmackDown, the legendary Haku would return to WWE television, with him appearing in a vignette alongside his sons Tama and Talla Tonga of the MFTs.
The MFTs would appear after the WWE Tag Team Championship match between Damian Priest & R-Truth and the War Raiders, laying all four men out and staking their claim to the gold.
The attack led to the announcement of a three-way match on tonight’s show, with Priest & Truth defending the titles in a three-way against both the War Raiders and MFTs.
The MFTs Win WWE Tag Team Championship
On the show, the motivation of their father Haku would lead the MFTs to glory, with them emerging victorious in the match to win the WWE Tag Team Championship.
This victory marks the first ever title win in WWE for Talla Tonga, while it is Tama Tonga’s third reign as WWE Tag Team Champion, holding previous reigns alongside Jacob Fatu in the Bloodline in 2024 and Solo Sikoa in the MFTs last year.
Damian Priest and R-Truth had defeated the MFTs for the titles back in March ahead of WrestleMania 42.
The Revival Of SmackDown’s Tag Team Division
This year has been a rather dull year for the SmackDown Tag Team division after it was the highlight of the entire brand for a good chunk of last year.
Of the six teams that competed in the TLC match at SummerSlam 2025, only Fraxiom remain as an active team on the SmackDown roster, with the Street Profits moving to Raw earlier this year, the Motor City Machine Guns and the Wyatt Sicks being released back in April, and both Tommaso Ciampa and Andrade leaving the company to join AEW, ending DIY and Andrade & Rey Fenix respectively.
Hopefully the title change can bring a new renewed focus back on the division, as though it may no longer be as stacked as it was last year, the division can still feature legitimate duos such as Fraxiom, the MFTs, War Raiders and Shinsuke Nakamura with his new partner that he teased last week.
The return of Haku shows WWE putting at least some focus on it’s tag teams on the SmackDown brand.
