Santino Marella in WWE

Watching Santino Marella on TNA television led to a former WWE star wanting to join TNA Wrestling ahead of the AMC premiere.

Santino has served as TNA’s ‘Director of Authority’ since the Hard to Kill pay-per-view event in January 2023.

He has served as the primary authority figure on the show, but may now face some trouble thanks to the arrival of Daria Rae (Sonya Deville) at the AMC premiere episode of iMPACT last week.

Speaking to Denise Salcedo, Daria opened up on how watching TNA, and specifically Santino, during her time away was what made her want to join the company.

She said:

“I would always keep up on socials and to be honest what TNA had been doing over the past like 6 months was really making me excited.

“Santino specifically as a character, I would just watch his segments and be like ‘oh I would love to shut him up’. His comedic timing is so good, he’s so funny, he’s so beloved by the fans, and I immediately saw how cool the dichotomy could be between myself and him, so I kind of manifested that maybe a little bit.

“Just everything that TNA was doing, I thought it was hotter than ever and I saw a lot of excited wrestlers on the independents wanting to get there, and it kinda just made sense with the partnership with Invicta and the work I did with Shannon Knapp, so I was like ‘I think this is where I’m supposed to be, this is what I’m supposed to do right now’.

“It just felt like the next step.”
