Rey Fenix has opened up about facing off with his brother Penta for the opportunity to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
After two weeks of tournament action, this Monday’s episode of Monday Night Raw (August 31) will see Penta and Rey Fenix go one-on-one for the opportunity to challenge ‘The OTC’ Roman Reigns in Mexico City on September 14.
Not only will Reigns be facing off with either man for the very first time in his career, but Penta and Fenix’s meeting on Monday will also be WWE fans’ first opportunity to see the Lucha Brothers go at it.
Appearing on Busted Open, Rey Fenix was asked by Nic Nemeth whether he or Penta will be the ones to to dethrone Reigns as World Heavyweight Champion, to which he replied confidently:
“Yes. Yes of course.”
Fenix would then open up about how much the opportunity to both face off against each other, and challenge for the World Heavyweight Title means to them both:
“I believe in my brother. I am so proud (of) him and everything he does. These opportunities are once in a lifetime and we understand (that). My brother understands the position we are in now. I totally understand if my brother beats me, if my brother wins the match, I will feel proud about my job.
“I think every time I step in the ring I always try to do my best. Of course this is the match I have to put double of (my) energy, my soul, my body because this is not only a match, this is a dream.
“This is a dream come true (for) two brothers that years ago – almost 22 years ago – we talk together and we know we have that dream. We used to play wrestling in my parents beds; we break up doors, we break up glasses, we break up mirrors, and one day we got that time to thinking about ‘Hey, what about if we can wrestle (in) WWE and enjoy magic one-on-one or dream matches.’ Now it’s here, on Monday Night Raw next week.”
“And of course if my brother won the match I would be happy for him and I would be happy for me because I know I did my best. Every time I step in the ring I always do my best because I love my job, I love what I do.
“This is a big deal for me and my brother. I know it’s gonna be a great match. I always say that, I am the best opponent of my brother and my brother is my best opponent.”
