NXT And AEW Ratings Drop

This was a tough week for Wednesday night wrestling. Both shows dropped this week from previous weeks.

However, AEW was hit harder. AEW dropped to 685,000. That was down from the week previous.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer attributed the drop to the ending of the previous week’s show.  He used the word silly to describe the ending and it may have turned off the casual fan.

NXT dropped to 590,000 this week.  This was a slight drop but not the drop AEW saw.

AEW dropped 16%. On the other hand, NXT dropped right at 4.7%.

You would think with nothing to do and not being able to go anywhere, television ratings would improve. However, it seems like people don’t like watching wrestling when there isn’t a live crowd.

It will be interesting to see how next week’s ratings play out. Could NXT be in line for their first ratings win in quite some time?

NXT will be airing the majority of what would have been their TakeOver show. It will be the blow-off between Ciampa and Gargano next week.

AEW has advertised the first two matches of the TNT Tournament. Cody vs. Shawn Spears and Darby vs. Sammy Guevara.

On paper, NXT should have a better show. Will fans tune in?
