A WWE star is set to defend their championship on NXT television in two weeks as part of the ongoing AAA partnership.
Back at AAA Noche de los Grandes, Rey Fenix captured his first championship of his WWE career, defeating Laredo Kid to win the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship.
Since his victory, Fenix has been defending the championship on both AAA and SmackDown, facing names such as Axiom, El Hijo del Vikingo and JD McDonagh.
Fenix is set to be a part of the World Heavyweight Championship number one contender’s tournament, with him facing off against El Fiscal next week on Raw, and he is now also set to make a trip to NXT.
Rey Fenix To Defend AAA Cruiserweight Championship In NXT
On tonight’s WWE NXT show, Robert Stone was shown backstage on the phone to AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio, where they were discussing what was next for the partnership between NXT and AAA.
Stone and Mysterio would then announce that Rey Fenix would appear on NXT in two weeks time, defending his AAA World Cruiserweight Championship.
A four-way will take place on next week’s WWE NXT show to determine the number one contender for the title, featuring EK Prosper, La Parka, Romeo Moreno and Tristan Angels.
The Latest Brother vs. Brother Encounter In WWE
Since both men signed with WWE at the beginning of 2025, Penta and Rey Fenix have largely been kept apart, with Penta on the Raw roster while Rey Fenix is on the SmackDown roster.
Fans continue to wait for the eventual Lucha Brothers reunion on WWE television, which we all almost certainly see sooner than later, but it seems as though the brothers may end up being opponents in WWE before they’re ever partners.
The Luchadore Tournament to determine Roman Reigns’ next World Heavyweight Championship challenger started last night on Raw, with Penta advancing over Laredo Kid.
Rey Fenix will be in action next week on Raw in his first tournament match against El Fiscal, but with he and Penta on opposite ends of the bracket, many fans are expecting the clash between the Lucha Bros to be the final of the tournament, likely with Penta going on to challenge Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship in Mexico City.
