We’re only 16 days away from the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, and the card is shaping up to be pretty interesting. We’ve managed to confirm a few matches this week, and being such, here’s an updated card for the event.
John Cena vs. Triple H
Open the door, get on the floor, check out these wrestling dinosaurs. No, old jokes aside, both of these guys are some of the best in the business, and as long as they don’t phone it in, this should be a fun match to watch.
Raw Tag Team Championships – The Bar vs. The Revival or Woken Matt Hardy & Bray Wyatt
Let’s hope it’s Matt & Bray vs. The Bar and the Woken ones go over. The Woken Universe is just getting started and has breathed new life into Wyatt’s character. A sustained push with the tag titles, coupled with a feud with The Bar could really help solidify these characters.
Intercontinental Championship – Ladder Match – Seth Rollins (C) vs. The Miz vs. Finn Balor vs. Samoa Joe
Well… that escalated quickly. Hey, how can we make that awesome match from WrestleMania even more awesome? Let’s add two of the things backstage most likely to cripple a man: ladders and Samoa Joe. Since Roman and Joe are set to face off at Backlash, Joe probably won’t be taking home the IC Title. Though, if he and Roman were to win, it would make for one hell of a Title vs. Title match. Oh, I want that now… book it WWE!
50-Man Royal Rumble
I kinda wanna just run down the list of superstars like the Animaniacs giving geography lessons.
We’ve got: Apollo and Benjamin, Sin Cara and Corbin, Elias, Gable, O’Neil. Goldust and Mojo, Ziggler and Jericho, Kurt Angle, the New Day, for real! That’ll be stuck in your head all day now. You’re welcome.
With the song version out of the way, the other names revealed for the Royal Rumble match include Daniel Bryan, Kane, Braun Strowman, Big Show and Bray Wyatt with more to be announced.
Universal Championship – Steel Cage Match – Brock Lesnar (C) vs. Roman Reigns
This could be the night Roman is finally crowned. He’s still slated to win the belt, and Brock’s contract extension only covers one more match. After this, Roman is slated to face Joe at Backlash, and, as stated above, seeing him carry the title into this feud would make it all the better.
Casket Match – Rusev vs. The Undertaker
Ok, I know it seems like WWE is force feeding Rusev to the top guys almost as a middle finger to the fans. However, a strong match against ‘Taker, even a loss, can help boost a career. Rusev is competing in one of the most special and rarest of WWE matches: the casket match. The Undertaker’s signature match, we thought we’d never see one again, and we’re getting one on Rusev Day!
SmackDown Tag Team Championships – The Bludgeon Brothers vs. The Usos
After the Bludgeons have been running through the Usos and the New Day week after week, they’ll have to build the Usos as a credible threat alone. Hopefully, Harper and Rowan retain and have a long title run. Not only are they both talented and overdue for a big push, but, as Triple H used to say, you need a Darth Vader. Having a big baddy at the top always makes for great storylines as people seek to dethrone them.
WWE Championship – AJ Styles vs. ???
With Shinsuke’s heel turn, the passion and anger on this one should be ramped up to epic proportions. This could go either way, but AJ chasing a cocky, heel, champion Nakamura would make for some great TV. Let’s hope the King of Strong Style can put a knee to face on April 27.
United States Championship – Jinder Mahal vs. ???
Since Orton earned a rematch for the US title at Backlash on last night’s SmackDown Live, the likelihood is that this will be his contractual rematch as he was the one who lost the championship to Jinder ar WrestleMania.
Cruiserweight Championship – Cedric Alexander vs. ???
On last night’s 205 Live, Buddy Murphy, who has been incredible since joining the purple brand, came out and attacked the newly crowned WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Cedric Alexander, during his celebration. Since Mustafa Ali was also present and 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick began screaming at Murphy afterward, we will likely see a WrestleMania 34 rematch between Ali and Alexander at the Greatest Royal Rumble event and have to wait until Backlash for Murphy to enter the fray.
What are you most excited about? Have they decided that metaphorically burying Rusev is simply not enough? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter here.
