AEW star Kyle Fletcher has opened up about the recent success of his Aussie Open tag team partner Mark Davis.

Fletcher and Davis were brought into AEW as a duo after teaming up for several years prior, but an injury to Davis but a halt to their run together and in turn led to Fletcher breaking out in the singles division.

After returning from a lengthy layoff, Davis suffered more injury setbacks, and then more recently, after starting a new tag team with Jake Doyle, Doyle suffered an injury of his own, which put paid to Davis’ plans once again.

However, Davis has rebounded since then and continues to be featured on TV, recently winning the AEW World Trios Championship alongside Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada.

In a new interview with WrestleTalk, Fletcher commented on what it meant to him to win the Trios Title with Davis and to see Davis achieving success after all the setbacks he’s been through.

Fletcher said:

“It was very personally fulfilling. As you know, Mark Davis has had just a real s**t end of the stick with injuries and stuff, and Jake Doyle getting injured as well.

“It really felt like he was getting a bad run for a little while, and personally, he’s one of my best friends in the whole world, so seeing that really sucked.

“But now, I think it was only a matter of time before he started getting the kind of opportunities that I was afforded when he got injured for the first time in AEW.

“And now he’s being given them and he’s smashing them out of the park like everyone always knew he would.

“So for me being able to be champs with him again, seeing him killing it on his own in the ring, it just means the world to me to see it.”

Kyle Fletcher On Elevating The TNT Championship

Regarding his own personal success, Fletcher also spoke in the interview about his reigns with the TNT Championship and the status of the title in AEW – specifically the excitement surrounding it when Tommaso Ciampa debuted after leaving WWE and Fletcher was working with Mark Briscoe.

He said:

“It was exciting. Everybody was excited about Ciampa coming in. Everybody was excited about me and Briscoe again. I think that just goes to show how the TNT Title is being viewed now.

“And I think when I won the title for the first time, it was very much at the forefront of my mind to make it feel like the biggest deal possible, and I think the way you bring prestige to championships is by defending it as much as you can, by putting on spectacular defenses, and I think I achieved that with my first reign.

“And then for Ciampa to come in and come straight after the TNT Championship and for everyone to be buzzing about that, to be buzzing about Briscoe, to be buzzing about me, I think that was just kind of a nod that I had achieved what I wanted to with that first reign to make that TNT Title feel so important.”
