Interim WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green has addressed her recent SmackDown segment with her real-life husband Matt Cardona.
While the duo were an established act outside of their current home promotion, fans got to see Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green share a WWE ring on the August 14 SmackDown episode.
Following Nick Aldis informing Chelsea Green that she had 30 days to get cleared to return and defend her title after suffering a broken orbital bone, GUNTHER interrupted the duo, leading to a confrontation between the Ring General and Matt Cardona.
With GUNTHER going on to defeat Cardona later on in the night, Chelsea Green has now opened up about sharing the ring in WWE with her real-life husband.
Speaking with Etalk, Green said:
“Matt and I have been together for 10 years. We’ve had so many instances in our careers where’ we’ve almost crossed paths. We’ve almost walked together. We’ve almost been on the same show.
“It was an amazing moment to be able to have him brought back to WWE, have us be able to work together on-screen, on SmackDown, but then also have backstage footage from Unreal. That was really cool as well.
“I think right now in wrestling, we love to blur the lines, and we bring in current events. We bring in real life situations. So, for Matt and I to end up on-screen together was, in my opinion, inevitable. You cannot avoid the fact that we are together.
“We’re both in WWE, we’re very public people with out personal lives. Everyone has watched us build our house and adopt our animals and grow this life together. It was really beautiful for the fans to see that on-screen, on SmackDown, he came to my aid. It was just really fun.
“I got to watch, in the ring, as a fan as well. Everyone was watching him come and save me, but I also got to watch that, which was really fun.”
