WWE plans for Aalyah Gutierrez, daughter of Rey Mysterio: Three ways the third-generation star could make her debut

WWE's Rey Mysterio & Aalyah Gutierrez

Aalyah Gutierrez has signed with WWE, and the daughter of Rey Mysterio will have plenty of eyes on her progress.

The brother of Dominik Mysterio, Aalyah Gutierrez is relatively new to the world of professional wrestling training, although her WWE Hall of Famer father has indicated he’d like to share the ring with both his children when he winds down his career.

With WWE confirming that Gutierrez is among the new influx of talent to report to the Performance Center, there are opportunities for her debut:

BirthRight

A faction of multi-generational stars would be a perfect fit for Gutierrez when she makes her NXT debut.

Alongside Lexis King (the son of the late Brian Pillman), BirthRight have been staking their claim to respect in NXT, with the faction consisting of Charlie Dempsey (son of William Regal), Uriah Connors (son of Fit Finlay), Arianna Grace (daughter of Santino Marella) and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo (fiancé of Arianna Grace).

Adding Gutierrez to the mix would bolster an already strong women’s division in NXT, add tag team potential alongside Grace and allow her to perform with stars well acquainted with WWE stardom ahead of their potential call-ups.

Mending The Mysterios

It would be a bold journey for a star new to WWE, but Gutierrez could be instrumental in repairing the rift between Rey and Dominik Mysterio.

Triplemania 34 saw Omos slam Rey Mysterio through a table while the Hall of Famer was attached to a stretcher, and Dominik Mysterio was hardly rushing to restrain his El Ojo teammate.

With the feud between the Mysterios continuing to Worlds Collide on September 26, Dominik teams with Omos and JD McDonagh to face Rey, CM Punk & El Grande Americano.

If Aalyah plays her part in the feud, it’ll come much later and could bring father and son together with a common cause.

WWE Evolve

Gutierrez could find her way into Evolve, the Tubi-streamed series that launched in March last year and now has its own women’s championship.

A pre-taped show that features stars from WWE ID and the Performance Center, it has become a stepping stone for developmental talent towards NXT careers.

Currently, the Evolve Women’s Championship is held by Nikkita Lyons, a star who also competes on NXT.

Time Will Tell

With previous reports noting a six-month evaluation period for WWE NXT stars, a level of improvement is clearly necessary for any talent looking to proceed in their chosen career.

For Gutierrez, Rey Mysterio has previously looked at his daughter’s training experience, just over a month in, saying to The Sun:

“She’s doing good. She’s about a month and a weekend of training in, and she picks up very fast.

“But she also gets very frustrated very easy, but it’s normal.”

Getting “very frustrated” is a good sign for the star, as it suggests that she is seeking to improve as opposed to just believe she can’t do it and moving on to something more in her comfort zone.

Not the only new signing in the current class of recruits, here’s to hoping that Gutierrez and the cohort find their path to television in the future.
