The Tuesday, September 15 episode of WWE NXT gave fans an answer as to who will be stepping up to challenge new NXT Champion Grayson Waller in his very first title defense.
It was Mason Rook who bested Saquon Shugars and Tony D’Angelo in their three-way number one contender’s match, with Rook scoring the pinfall on former NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo to do so.
With Tony D being the one to take the pin – much like he did in the NXT Title four-way at Heatwave – questions must be asked regarding his future on the brand.
After five years competing on Tuesday nights, is it finally time for D’Angelo to get his chance on Raw or SmackDown? Here are three potential plans for Tony D if Raw or SmackDown come calling:
Helps Oba Femi against The Vision

Tony D’Angelo handed Oba Femi two WWE NXT defeats in October 2024
When it comes to Oba Femi, there are very few WWE stars on the roster that know ‘The Ruler’ better than Tony D’Angelo.
In October 2024, Tony D defeated Femi twice in their rivalry over the NXT North American Championship; and to this day he is the only man to do so.
While they may be former rivals, Femi is in need of some backup in his feud with The Vision and having him call upon D’Angelo would be a great way to introduce him to a main roster audience, while also putting him over as someone to be feared, if someone as dominant as Femi is going to him for help.
Trick Williams next United States Championship challenger after Baron Corbin

Trick Williams has become a two-time United States Champion since his main roster call up.
WWE Raw having more air time than SmackDown currently makes it the ideal landing spot for new stars, however, that’s not to say there aren’t opportunities for new faces on the blue brand whatsoever.
Baron Corbin is someone who has proven how to make an impact over the past few months, but after losing the United States Title back to Trick Williams at Sunday Night’s Main Event, it feels like he’s another loss away from giving up his spot as the primary challenger for the US Title.
D’Angelo is someone who could very well slot into that spot next, whether as a heel or babyface. With he, Trick and fellow SmackDown star Carmelo Hayes coming up in NXT at the same time, we could see a three-way feud heading into the fall months.
Recruited by The Vision
With not all WWE main roster fans being familiar with NXT stars, it can sometimes be an uphill battle getting them to care and be invested in new faces when they’re first called up.
Joining a faction and/or turning heel makes for an easier transition, with their being less pressure on talents getting fans to like them off the bat, and The Vision may just be the perfect group for D’Angelo to join up with, especially now.
As mentioned, The Vision are feuding with Oba Femi, and things are going pretty well for Bron Breakker and company following the return of Bronson Reed. But what happens when the tide starts to turn back in favor of ‘The Ruler?’
If The Vision find themselves on the back foot, Breakker could look to call upon his close friend Tony D due to his favourable win/loss record over Femi. While WWE may be reluctant to bring that up, it’d be a nice way to continue their story, and also allow Femi to get his win back.
