The Rock WWE Return Plans

Share

WWE's CM Punk, Roman Reigns and The Rock

Over the last two years, The Rock has played a crucial role in adding extra intrigue and fan investment around WWE WrestleMania season.

With recent reports indicating ticket sales are falling short of WWE’s expectations, the company may need to call upon “The Final Boss” once again.

The Rock returning should be presented as a big deal, and lead to bringing more eyes to the WWE product as only he can.

Here are eight potential The Rock WWE return plans.

8. Become A New Authority Figure As “The Final Boss”

In 2024, The Rock made his return to WWE and looked to position himself as the opponent for Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

However, the fans’ backlash against this plan and wanting to see Cody Rhodes get his rightful opportunity at Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship led to a change of plans.

In the midst of this change, The Rock turned heel and created arguably one of his best characters ever in “The Final Boss,” exerting his power as a member of the TKO Board of Directors across WWE programming.

Taking things a step further, “The Final Boss” could return once again and become the newest authority figure usurping both Raw and SmackDown General Managers Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis as the most powerful man in the company.

7. Give Support To Nia Jax & Help Get Back To The WWE Women’s Championship

While The Rock has been embroiled with some of the top male stars since making his return to WWE, he has not interacted too much with the female talent on the roster.

The Rock has a ton of family currently on the WWE roster, which includes Nia Jax.

Wanting to interact with the women’s division upon his return, The Rock could align and give his support to his cousin, Nia Jax in a major way.

Helping Jax back to the top of the WWE women’s division, The Rock could be key to bringing gold back to his family and putting eyes on the female talent in the company heading into WrestleMania 42.

6. Resume His Feud With Cody Rhodes

Over the past two years, The Rock has found himself embroiled in a feud with Cody Rhodes.

After the fans helped to rally Rhodes to his rightful spot in the main event of WrestleMania 40 Night Two, it was The Rock who teamed with Roman Reigns to defeat “The American Nightmare” and Seth Rollins in a tag team match on Night One.

Just when it seemed like the two men put their rivalry behind them, The Rock made Cody an offer he seemingly couldn’t refuse when he wanted Rhodes to sell him his soul in 2025, which led to John Cena’s shocking heel turn and alliance with “The Final Boss.”

Resuming their rivalry with one another, The Rock’s return could see him once again target Rhodes and maybe finally go one-on-one on “The Grandest Stage of Them All” at WrestleMania 42.

5. Endorse Drew McIntyre As Undisputed WWE Champion

While he has mostly interacted with the likes of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes on television, The Rock has also formed relationships with other stars off screen in WWE over the past few years.

One of those stars that The Rock has grown the closest to is Drew McIntyre.

It was “The Final Boss” who helped McIntyre decide to re-sign with WWE and gave him a Claymore sword as a signing bonus in 2024.

Bringing this relationship to the on-screen product, fans could see The Rock return to endorse McIntyre as his Undisputed WWE Champion, helping regain some momentum after being badly mouthed by both CM Punk and Roman Reigns recently.

4. Insert Jacob Fatu Into Undisputed WWE Championship Match At WrestleMania 42

The Rock is part of the world famous Anoa’i family dynasty and The Bloodline, so he is no stranger to showing his support towards his cousins on WWE TV.

After displaying the massive family tree in the lead-up to WrestleMania 40, The Rock could bring this to the forefront even more.

Jacob Fatu has been the latest Anoa’i family member who has risen to prominence in WWE over the past couple of years.

With “The Samoan Werewolf” currently feuding with both Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre over the Undisputed WWE Championship, The Rock’s return could see him using his power to insert Fatu into the mix at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.

3. Special Guest Referee For Undisputed WWE Championship Match At WrestleMania

While The Rock has shown himself to be ready to compete inside the squared circle despite being 54 years old, WWE might have to be creative with different ways to use “The Final Boss” at WrestleMania 42 this year.

Considering his busy schedule in Hollywood and wanting to avoid injury, the company could use The Rock in a non-wrestling capacity that would still draw interest in “The Show of Shows.”

Despite Roman Reigns and CM Punk looking destined to headline Night Two of WrestleMania 42 this year, the company should do whatever possible to bring more eyes to the rivalry over the Undisputed WWE Championship.

With Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu all looking like they are on a collision course for the gold, The Rock could step in to bring some order and control to this three-way main event by becoming the special guest referee for the match.

2. Help Roman Reigns Defeat CM Punk

Outside of Cody Rhodes, someone else that The Rock has had his issues with in the past is CM Punk.

Following John Cena’s heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber 2025, the first star who spoke out against him and The Rock was none other than Punk.

After hearing Punk call him a “bald fraud,” it would make sense if “The Final Boss” did not forget what “The Best In The World” had to say about him.

In wanting his revenge and to help his cousin, The Rock could insert himself to help Roman Reigns dethrone Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship in Las Vegas at WrestleMania 42.

1. Start Rivalry With Roman Reigns To Culminate One Year Later At WrestleMania 43

While The Rock has had his issues with the likes of Cody Rhodes and CM Punk in the past, the growing animosity and underlying resentment towards his cousin Roman Reigns was more unspoken.

When The Rock made his return to WWE in 2024, Reigns welcomed him into The Bloodline after it seemed like the two cousins were looking to set up a showdown against one another.

Looking back on his return in 2011, The Rock came back and set up a year-long buildup to his showdown with John Cena at the following year’s WrestleMania 28 event.

The Rock could do that once again by returning for WrestleMania 42 and starting another year-long story culminating with his long anticipated meeting with Reigns at Mania 43 in Saudi Arabia.
