This week’s episode of WWE Raw ended with a backstage segment that got a lot of people talking, with AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio having a conversation with World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns.
The following day, it was confirmed that Roman Reigns would defend the World Heavyweight Championship on the September 14 episode of WWE Raw taking place in Mexico City.
With the official 8-man bracket now announced, we now know who is in the running as potentially facing Reigns for the title in Mexico City, though some have more of a chance than others.
Here is every potential Roman Reigns WWE Raw World Heavyweight Championship challenger ranked.
8) El Fiscal

El Fiscal is currently in a storyline with brother Abismo Negro Jr on AAA television
El Fiscal is a member of the AAA roster that hasn’t been a primary focus on the program since WWE acquired the promotion last year.
During his appearance on AAA television in recent months, Fiscal has been in a rivalry with his real-life brother Abismo Negro Jr over the legendary legacy of their father.
While Fiscal himself is a talented performer, he also has not featured in any major way on outside WWE programming since the company purchased AAA.
Fiscal is likely just here to fill out the bracket, given he is set to face off with SmackDown’s Rey Fenix.
7) Psycho Clown

Psycho Clown has spent most of his time in WWE’s AAA as part of a tag team with Pagano
Psycho Clown is a name that has been a fairly regularly featured member of the AAA roster since WWE purchased the show.
Alongside being one of the DLC characters in WWE 2k26’s first season pass, Psycho Clown has spent most of the time in AAA under WWE’s ownership as one half of the AAA Tag Team Champions alongside Pagano.
He and Pagano defended the titles against Kofi Kingston and Grayson Waller at the first Worlds Collide event last year, as well as him appearing in this year’s Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
While Psycho Clown is a key part of WWE’s partnership with AAA, it’s highly unlikely he will be the name chosen to face Reigns on Raw.
6) Laredo Kid

Laredo Kid reigns has one half of the AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions alongside La Hiedra
Laredo Kid has quietly become one of the MVPs of the AAA roster since the WWE acquisition last year.
Laredo Kid was most recently showcased at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he faced off against Trick Williams in a pre-show match on the show, as well as other appearances at Worlds Collide, on NXT and on Main Event.
On top of being spotlighted numerous times by the company, Laredo Kid is also very accomplished in the WWE era of AAA, coming off a reign as Cruiserweight Champion with him already holding gold again as one half of the Mixed Tag Team Champions with La Hiedra.
The only thing stopping Laredo Kid being higher on this list is that the luck of the draw is not on his side.
5) LA Parka

LA Parka made an appearance in the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble match
The latest name in the legendary legacy of LA Park, La Parka currently dons the iconic skeleton costume in WWE’s AAA.
Despite not being the same LA Park as the one we saw in WCW, more casual audiences may immediately be more familiar with him given his connection to the iconic luchadore.
On top of that, La Parka was chosen as one of two AAA names to appear in the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble match back in January.
Roman Reigns wrestling La Parka in Mexico City would be an incredibly fun match, but it’s still not very likely to happen.
4) El Hijo De Dr Wagner Jr

El Hijo Del Dr Wagner Jr previously reigned as AAA Latin American Champion before losing the title to Hijo del Vikingo
In many ways, El Hijo del Dr Wagner Jr could be considered the AAA star that has benefitted the most from WWE’s purchase of the company last year.
El Hijo del Dr Wagner Jr was targeted by the company even prior to the purchase of AAA last year, with him ultimately joining AAA after his departure from Pro Wrestling NOAH in 2025.
Since the WWE acquisition of AAA, Wagner 3 has been one of the key names showcased, with recent appearances on SmackDown and NXT being among his accolades.
Of the truly exclusive AAA talent in the tournament, he has the best chance at being chosen as Reigns’ opponent.
3) Rey Fenix

Rey Fenix has been defending his AAA Cruiserweight Championship on SmackDown in recent weeks
Arriving in WWE just two months after his brother Penta in March 2025, Rey Fenix’s time in WWE has been a little more rocky than Penta’s has.
After months of having basically no momentum to speak of, Fenix has finally found a spark again on WWE SmackDown with his defences of the AAA Cruiserweight Championship.
With Fenix now being featured again on WWE television, defending a AAA title, the recent increase in momentum for him could be to set up this eventual encounter with Reigns.
Fenix will likely make it far in the tournament even if he doesn’t end up winning it.
2) Dragon Lee

Dragon Lee reigned as World Tag Team Champion with AJ Styles in 2025
While the past few months have been relatively quiet for the luchador, Dragon Lee remains one of the most exciting in-ring talents on the Raw roster.
Despite holding World Tag Team Championship gold with AJ Styles at the end of 2025, Dragon Lee is still waiting for his major breakout opportunity on the WWE main roster.
As a member of the WWE Raw roster, and Reigns’ upcoming defence taking place on Raw itself, Dragon Lee by default should be considered one of the favorites to win the whole thing.
However, there is one man that is standing in his way.
1) Penta

Penta lost his Intercontinental Championship to Chad Gable at SummerSlam
After a great five month run with the Intercontinental Championship, Penta finally parted with the title at SummerSlam, when he lost the title to Chad Gable in his hometown of Minneapolis.
Penta has been one of the most popular names on the Raw roster since his arrival last year, with fans hoping he would take the next step up in his WWE career following his loss of the Intercontinental Championship.
When the tournament was announced to determine who would face Reigns on Raw, the first name that came to most people’s minds was Penta.
With Penta in the tournament, he will almost certainly be the favorite to go all the way.
