In recent weeks, the partnership between AEW and NJPW has kicked into high gear, with it almost feeling like Forbidden Door season once again.
With several major cross-promotional matches teased recently, fans have begun to speculate that next year’s Wrestle Kingdom event could see an ‘AEW vs. NJPW’ theme given recent events.
Here are the major cross-promotional matches between AEW and NJPW we are set to see soon.
Kenny Omega vs. Yota Tsuji

Kenny Omega returned to New Japan to lay out IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji at King of Pro Wrestling
Earlier today, NJPW hosted it’s King of Pro Wrestling event, which saw Yota Tsuji face off against Ryohei Oiwa for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.
Tsuji would retain the title before addressing the crowd to end the show, which is when Kenny Omega would appear in a video, before coming to the ring to lay out Tsuji.
Tsuji has previously taken some jabs at AEW in the past, and it seems as though they’re finally coming back to haunt him.
MJF vs. Ryohei Oiwa
After winning the G1 Climax tournament, Ryohei Oiwa has been praised as one of NJPW’s best young stars, with ‘The Grip’ winning his matches with a Sleeper Hold.
This led to the challenge from ‘Real’ AEW World Champion MJF, who has previously beaten Darby Allin with a headlock, saying that he is coming to NJPW for the first time, looking to prove he is better than Oiwa.
MJF is on a quest to end Japanese wrestling and shut the Forbidden Door once and for all.
Will Ospreay vs. Callum Newman
Will Ospreay returned to New Japan Pro Wrestling earlier this year, where he appeared on the New Year’s Dash show to reunite with the United Empire and Callum Newman.
Over the past year, Newman and Ospreay have remained aligned, though tensions between the two are continuing to grow following Ospreay’s AEW World Championship victory.
Newman vs. Ospreay has seemed like the likely destination for Wrestle Kingdom all year, and with the show just two months away, nothing has changed.
Jon Moxley vs. Shingo Takagi

After defeating Death Riders member Claudio Castagnoli, Shingo Takagi has been calling out the leader of the group, Jon Moxley.
At King of Pro Wrestling today, Takagi did so once again, this time with Moxley appearing in a video to announce his return to NJPW.
While Moxley did not mention Shingo by name, Takagi would respond by telling Mox he has to step into the ring with him upon his return.
