AEW Tag Teams Splitting Up

Share

AEW stars HOOK and Eddie Kingston

2025 has seen the AEW tag team division get quite the significant boost in focus and attention with the duos of the company delivering some of the best matches of the year.

From The Young Bucks and FTR reminding everyone why they are two all-time great pairings to new tandems being paired up, the tag team division has been a highlight every single week on AEW television.

However, there could be some changes that go down and see some of these partnerships come to an end as the calendar goes from 2025 to 2026.

Here are six AEW tag teams potentially splitting up.

6. HOOK & Eddie Kingston

At AEW Full Gear 2025, HOOK turned heel and nailed Hangman Adam Page with the AEW World Title to help Samoa Joe win the gold for a second time.

Revealing that he was always part of The Opps, this was a shocking moment that has changed the fan perception around HOOK moving forward.

This also caused a big change to the tag team division as the former three-time FTW Champion has been teaming with Eddie Kingston since his return to the promotion at AEW All Out 2025.

Kingston and HOOK going their separate ways will not be amicable and should see “The Mad King” finally having something to sink his teeth into for the first time since coming back to AEW.

5. Big Bill & Bryan Keith

In 2024, Chris Jericho formed his latest faction with The Learning Tree based around the legend giving advice to younger stars on the roster.

Becoming the first members of the group, Big Bill and Bryan Keith were able to learn from Jericho and help progress their own careers.

Since Jericho left the two men to their own devices, Bill and Bryan have struggled to find their footing in the AEW tag team division.

It might be best for both Big Bill and Bryan Keith to go their separate ways and try to stand out on their own instead of drawing out a partnership that is closely associated with Jericho, who might not return to the company.

4. TayJay (Anna Jay & Tay Melo)

On the November 19 edition of AEW Dynamite and Collision, Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir defeated TayJay to advance in the AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament.

This caused some negative feedback from fans of Anna Jay and Tay Melo, feeling like the only legitimate tag team in the tournament deserved to move on.

TayJay have been around since the early years of All Elite Wrestling and have earned their time as champions.

After fighting for these titles and then coming up short in the tournament, it might lead to Anna or Tay deciding to turn on each other, feeling that they have lost out on an opportunity they wanted for so long.

3. JetSpeed (Speedball Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight)

At AEW Full Gear 2025, JetSpeed competed in the AEW National Championship Casino Gauntlet Match.

During the course of the bout, Speedball Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight found themselves at odds with one another being left in the ring alone.

Going at it with one another in a fast paced sequence, fans were given a glimpse of a world where Knight and Bailey stood on opposite sides of the ring.

With many fans pegging Knight for a breakout year, JetSpeed might get an amicable split where both men strive for singles success in 2026.

2. Kyle Fletcher & Konosuke Takeshita

Over the past few weeks, fans have seen Kazuchika Okada getting under the skin of Konosuke Takeshita in a brewing rivalry within The Don Callis Family.

In his bid to piss off “The Alpha,” Okada attempted to craft a friendship with Takeshita’s best friend and tag team partner Kyle Fletcher.

At AEW Full Gear 2025, Fletcher called out both Okada and Takeshita for putting him in the middle of their beef and not helping in his TNT Title loss to Mark Briscoe.

With Fletcher set to compete in the Continental Classic with his Don Callis Family stablemates, fans could see the end of his tag team with Takeshita, so there will be no more Proto-shita on their screens.

1. Brodido (Bandido & Brody King)

FTR finally claimed their long awaited third AEW World Tag Team Championship by defeating Brodido at AEW Full Gear 2025.

This marked the end of Brodido’s three-month reign as champions. Since forming their partnership, Bandido and Brody King have become one of the best duos in All Elite Wrestling today.

However, both men are also well accomplished singles stars who might just want to compete in the upcoming Continental Classic tournament.

While Brodido have been an instant hit in the tag team scene, it might be more beneficial for Bandido and Brody to forge their own path in singles competition following their AEW World Tag Team Title loss.
