Adam Copeland has been away from AEW television over the past few months, but he could be on his way back sooner rather than later.

Being one of the company’s biggest stars, AEW should have some big plans for when Copeland is back in the fold in the coming weeks or months.

From reuniting with Christian Cage to going after championship gold, there is a lot of possibilities at hand for “The Rated R Superstar.”

Here are seven potential Adam Copeland AEW return plans.

7. Teaming With Christian Cage To Challenge FTR For AEW World Tag Team Titles

Back at AEW All Out 2025, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defeated FTR. Post match, FTR attacked Cage and Adam’s wife Beth Copeland, while “The Rated R Superstar” was handcuffed to the ropes.

After months away from the company’s television, it feels like a lot has changed for both Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler.

FTR went on to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships from Brodido at Full Gear 2025.

Now that they have the gold, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage could come back together to challenge FTR for the AEW World Tag Team Titles, trying to win their first gold as a unit since 2001.

6. Trying To Regain The TNT Championship

Prior to this recent absence from the company, Adam Copeland was sidelined from AEW with a serious leg injury following a Barbwire Steel Cage Match against Malakai Black at Double Or Nothing 2024.

While Copeland made his return at AEW Worlds End 2024, he went after the AEW World Title instead of the TNT Championship he held before his injury.

Almost two years later, it might be time for Copeland to go after the TNT Title and try to regain the championship gold that he held proudly.

Now with Mark Briscoe holding the title, Copeland could return to challenge for the TNT Championship, feeling like he is still the rightful titleholder.

5. Going Back After AEW World Championship Against MJF

MJF wins AEW World Championship at Worlds End 2025

Another title that Adam Copeland has been pursuing over the past year has been the AEW World Championship.

While he had several attempts at the gold in 2025, Copeland came up short against Jon Moxley and was unable to capture the top prize in All Elite Wrestling.

Now a year later, that same title is held by Maxwell Jacob Friedman, who is someone that Copeland has never faced before.

Copeland challenging MJF would be a fresh matchup that could headline any major pay-per-view for AEW in the months to come.

Back at AEW WrestleDream 2023, Adam Copeland made his debut with the company to close the show.

While he has been with the promotion for over two years now, there are several major names that Copeland has never faced in his career.

Someone who has his history with Copeland from his time in WWE is Swerve Strickland.

Viewing Copeland as a mentor behind-the-scenes, Strickland may want to beat the WWE Hall of Famer and set up for a heated passing of the torch moment upon his return to the company.

3. Facing Chris Jericho Before He Leaves AEW

AEW Dynamite debut Adam Copeland, Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Renee Paquette

Chris Jericho has been at the center of many headlines over the past year thanks to his wrestling future being in question.

With his AEW contract about to expire, Jericho could be finishing up his six-year run with the promotion.

Meanwhile, Adam Copeland has only interacted with Jericho briefly in 2025 where they were on the opposite side of a trios match on an episode of AEW Collision.

Considering their past feud with WWE, Copeland could be the ideal individual who Jericho can face in the final match of his AEW run.

2. Copeland & Christian Cage vs. The Young Bucks

2025 saw Adam Copeland and Christian Cage finally reunite and feud with FTR over several months.

When Copeland makes his return, fans could see the two longtime friends and tag team partners teaming up yet again.

This should set up some tantalizing first-time ever meetings with the best that the AEW tag team division has to offer, which includes The Young Bucks.

Widely regarded as one of the best duos of their generation, The Young Bucks would deliver an instant classic against another legendary pairing like Copeland and Christian if given the opportunity.

1. Dream Match With Kenny Omega

AEW star Kenny Omega

When Adam Copeland signed with All Elite Wrestling, he made it clear that he had a few names on the list of dream matches he could possibly have in the company.

With both men being legendary stars from Canada, Copeland mentioned Kenny Omega as someone he desired stepping in the ring with.

Considering that Copeland and Omega are seemingly winding down their careers, it feels like now or never for these two iconic stars to meet in the squared circle.

Omega is on the quest for the AEW World Championship and may have to overcome “The Rated R Superstar” on his way to becoming a two-time champion in the company.
