On Saturday, December 27, All Elite Wrestling will return to pay-per-view for the AEW Worlds End 2025 event.
On a night that will feature championship gold on the line and the finals of the Continental Classic, there will be plenty of developments that may shock fans throughout this event.
From title changes to new storyline directions, there could be any number of surprising moments from Chicago on December 27.
Here are eight potential surprises at AEW Worlds End 2025.
8. Kazuchika Okada Doesn’t Make Finals Of Continental Classic

Back at AEW Worlds End 2024, Kazuchika Okada defeated Will Ospreay to win the Continental Classic tournament and retain the AEW Continental Championship.
Heading into the 2025 tournament, many fans believed it was a foregone conclusion that the current Continental Champion would be back in the finals this year.
After suffering a loss in the first Gold League match to his Don Callis Family stablemate Kyle Fletcher, there is a possibility that “The Rainmaker” may miss out on this year’s finals.
With the likes of Fletcher, Konosuke Takeshita, Jon Moxley and Speedball Mike Bailey all seeming like favorites to make it to AEW Worlds End 2025, there could be a chance that Okada could miss the semifinals and finals completely.

7. Kazuchika Okada Costs Konosuke Takeshita The Continental Classic Tournament

Ahead of this year’s Continental Classic, many fans believed the finals would come down to Don Callis Family members Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita.
However, it seems like this current interstable rivalry might not be ready to collide on a major stage just yet.
If Okada is unable to make it to the finals of the C2, there is the possibility that he might want to make sure that Takeshita is not the one to take his AEW Continental Championship at AEW Worlds End 2025.
With a pre-match assault, Okada could cost Takeshita the Continental Classic and make sure his stablemate/rival does not get the job done in Chicago.

6. The Elite Become Three-Time AEW World Trios Champions

At AEW Full Gear 2025, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks reunited as the trio partnered with Jurassic Express to fight off the Don Callis Family.
Now, Omega and The Bucks will bring back The Elite as they team to face The Don Callis Family in a Winner Takes All $1 Million Match on the December 17 Holiday Bash edition of AEW Dynamite.
Looking to re-cement The Elite’s place in the company, Omega, Matt and Nick Jackson could keep this reunion tour going by challenging for the AEW World Trios Championships at AEW Worlds End 2025.
Whether it be against The Opps or another trio, fans could see The Elite walk out of AEW Worlds End 2025 as a record-breaking three-time AEW World Trios Champions.

5. Mercedes Monè & Athena Win AEW Women’s Tag Team Championships

In the first round of the AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament, Babes of Wrath defeated Mercedes Moné and Athena to advance to the semifinals.
This was just one of several key losses for Moné as of late, who recently lost the ROH World TV Championship to Red Velvet at ROH Final Battle 2025.
On the December 13 Winter Is Coming episode of AEW Collision, Moné issued a challenge to Babes of Wrath and Timeless Love Bombs to an eight-man tag team match on AEW Dynamite: Holiday Bash 2025.
With a win in this match, fans could see Mercedes reunite with Athena to go on to defeat Babes of Wrath to cut their inaugural reign extremely short by crowning second ever champions at AEW Worlds End 2025.

4. Jamie Hayter Becomes Two-Time AEW Women’s World Champion Against Kris Statlander

On the December 13 Winter Is Coming special of AEW Collision, Kris Statlander and Jamie Hayter defeated Sisters of Sin.
Following the bout, Hayter issued a challenge to Statlander for the AEW Women’s World Championship with the match being made official for the Worlds End 2025 pay-per-view.
Hayter has been hot pursuit of the AEW Women’s World Title since making her return at AEW All In: London 2024.
After months of waiting for a singles opportunity, Hayter could be on her way to become a two-time AEW Women’s World Champion against Statlander in Chicago at Worlds End 2025.

3. Jay White Makes His Return

After entering himself in the 2025 Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament, it was revealed that Jay White had been deemed unable to compete.
“Switchblade” suffered a broken hand injury and was dealing with shoulder injuries as well, leading to surgery during his time away.
After more than seven months on the shelf, it might be the right time for White to make his comeback before the end of 2025.
Reuniting with the Bang Bang Gang when they really need him, White could make his return at AEW Worlds End 2025 and immediately thrust himself into the spotlight once more in the company.

2. The Death Riders Finally Turn On Jon Moxley

Ever since losing the AEW World Title to Hangman Page at All In: Texas 2025, Jon Moxley has experienced a major downfall that has seen him lose several major matches.
After losing for his team in the Men’s Blood & Guts, saying I Quit to Darby Allin at WrestleDream and his recent loss to fellow Death Rider Claudio Castagnoli, it seems like the world of Moxley is falling apart.
With rumors running rampant about The Death Riders’ future, AEW Worlds End 2025 might see everything finally come to a head.
Whether it be falling short in the Continental Classic or in another key singles match, The Death Riders could finally turn on their leader Moxley to start 2026 anew without him.

1. MJF Cashes In Casino Gauntlet Contract To become AEW World Champion

Heading into AEW Dynamite: Holiday Bash 2025, there have been several rumors and reports in regards to a possible return for MJF.
Since losing to Mark Briscoe in a Tables N’ Tacks Match at AEW All Out 2025, MJF has been away from the company’s television for the past few months.
With the Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royale and a contract signing for the AEW World Title Match set for the Holiday Bash, this feels like an important night that Maxwell Jacob Friedman can’t possibly miss.
MJF cashing in his Casino Gauntlet contract could see him make the three-way with Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland and Hangman Adam Page into a four-way where he cheats his way to become a two-time AEW World Champion in Chicago.
